Singapore

Being part of the community is not just about opening a store in the newest, hippest mall in town. It’s also about actively contributing back to society in ways that truly benefit those who need assistance and friendship. We believe in building long-lasting relationships with the people that live and work in the places that we operate in, and we do this by encouraging our staff to volunteer their time and their skills with charities and non-government groups.

out and about
The Body Shop Singapore actively encourages employees to volunteer in the community with organisations that we have built close relationships with over the years.

To enable them to do this, we grant all employees up to six working days per year to volunteer.

building self-esteem through make-up workshops
The Body Shop® team of make-up specialists spent a day with migrant workers who were living at a shelter run by non-government organisation H.O.M.E. Waiting to settle employment disputes, women in the shelter were very happy to take part in something fun to take their mind off their personal problems. The Body Shop® make-up experts shared basic grooming tips, and showed the women how to apply make-up. Both these skills did a great job at building self-esteem and increasing self-confidence.

using our retail experience to make a difference
Our retail staff love their jobs on the shop floor, but when it comes to using their sales skills to support a worthwhile cause, there’s no stopping them. So when we arranged for them to help to raise funds for people living with HIV and AIDS, they were all for it.

Last year, both store and office staff sold handicraft items, made by residents of the Patient Care Centre, at a mobile cart located in Tan Tock Seng and collected over $2,500. The money goes towards the running of the Centre, which provides counselling and financial assistance to HIV positive patients.

This has become such a popular volunteering option for staff that The Body Shop Singapore are considering making this a monthly activity.
